Writing tools: Foxmarks

by Matthew Stibbe on October 16, 2008

Foxmarks logo I use Firefox 3 as my main browser and Foxmarks is an essential add-on. I use bookmarks to store reference websites for my work and the bookmarks toolbar

It does several things for me:

  1. Backs up my bookmarks securely online.
  2. Synchronises bookmarks between my desktop PCs, my Mac and my two laptops.
  3. Synchronises saved passwords (with version 2.5) across different machines.

I used to use Google Browser Sync but that doesn’t work with FF3 and Foxmarks is now a complete replacement and, in my opinion, works more reliably.

Pure and simple, FoxMarks rocks. I use it on all my machines to sync and backup my bookmarks. I also recommend it and install it on other people’s machines. It is one of the easiest ways to migrate bookmarks from one machine to another. And the fact that you can also access them via the web if you are not at your own machine can come in really handy when you are on the road.

Matthew, have you checked out the new version of Foxmarks yet? They now allow you to create profiles for the different pcs you use so that you get to chose which bookmarks appear on which pc. I just love this add on and find myself completely lost when I’m on a pc without Foxmarks!
