Writing tips online

by Matthew Stibbe on June 7, 2006

Here are three sites that have useful writing tips:

  • Oblique Strategies. This is an online version of Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt’s famous deck of cards which they use to break creative barriers. It’s a bit, well, oblique but that’s the point. I wrote my own deck to help with marketing problems. Creating a set of cards is an interesting creative challenge in its own right.
  • Writing tips for non-writers by John Scalzi. I like “Speak what you write” as a tip. If everyone read their copy out loud we’d avoid a lot of ghastly marketing-speke.
