There was a terrific post on Scott Heiferman’s blog on Thursday: “50 reasons why more people aren’t using your website.” Two of my favourite reasons:

29. Because they don’t understand your college words
50. Because they just don’t want to read what you want them to read

Content - words and pictures - are the stuff of the worldwide web. If you have something that is interesting, useful and, yes, entertaining people will visit your website more, stay longer and believe what you tell them.

If not, the best Flash intros, slickest user interface and all the SEO in the world will not save you.
