It snowed yesterday in London and a long meeting was cancelled. Yippee! Suddenly a free day. I did a huge amount of work on one of my client’s websites, made a ton of phone calls and still watched a couple of documentaries and produced a flyer for my wife’s new play.
Then, today, my planned flying trip was cancelled. Again, the weather. While I’m sad not to go flying, it was another free day. Nothing in the diary, no interviews or deadlines or obligations.
Here’s what I did:
- I wrote a case study for one client, a column for another.
- I set up a raft of interviews for next week. (Arranging interviews is my least favourite job and one reason why I want to hire a PA.)
- Made a rice pudding. It overcooked a bit but tasted great.
- Caught up on my email backlog.
- Called an old friend that I hadn’t seen for five years.
- Set up a make-friends and be-nice meeting with Metia (I’m still feeling a bad about my dig the other day.)
- Watched an episode of Futurama. Starship Titanic. Fry-tastic.
- Four cups of tea. A long lie-in.
- Drove over copies of the programme to the theatre where my wife was.
- Played Gears of War on my Xbox 360. Got killed three times.
- Tinkered geekily with ReadyBoost on my Vista PC. It didn’t work but I enjoyed tinkering.
- Ordered my new ChillBlast Phantom PC. Apparently it is completely silent. Full report when it arrives in a couple of weeks.
- My wife came home for lunch and rotated and pushed me around my office in my chair and it was like being on a rollercoaster.
Tonight, we’re having three friends round for dinner and I’ve dug out a really nice bottle of wine for them. None of this is about writing or indeed very interesting but it was a gift of a day and I enjoyed it.
