I've had other writers mention that one way to get an interviewee to say things they might not ordinarily say, is to stay quiet once they have (seemingly) answered the question. In that awkward silence they aren't sure if you're fully satisfied with the answer or not and keep going. If you accept the answer at the point where it seems complete, you might be losing some great stuff.. I know I sometimes have a hard time keeping my trap shut. Thanks Matthew. Great piece.
