What a shame. I suppose it must happen sometimes. Goodness knows, I had enough employees behave badly when they were quitting so it goes both ways. However, I think it is important to plan your behaviour on the basis that most people will be professional and well-behaved. If you calibrate your behaviour assuming everyone is a dick, life's going to be pretty unpleasant, isn't it? That said, working somewhere, you'll have a pretty good idea of how they'll take your quitting. In this case it sounds like you are well out of it!

"It is likely that they have seen a lot of people quit over the years and will not react unpleasantly."

This has not been true in my experience, and in the experiences of people I know.
I remember one place I left, when I made up a meeting to put in my two weeks, I kept my cool and remained polite the whole time while getting yelled and cursed at, belittled and mocked, and then insisted to make the remaining of my time working there miserable.

I always make a meeting, but the employers are not always pleasant about it. At all.

I'm currently in the process of chasing after a job I really want with a company I'd kill to work for. Thank you for this advice. It's some of the best I've seen.

Thanks for your nice post
My comment is that with employers receiving hundreds of resumes you must make sure that your resume hooks an employer's attention within a 5-second glance. A great way to do this is to use job titles and skill headings that relate to and match the jobs you want.

Great tips! Having just gone through a couple of interviews this week, there are so many things the seasoned interviewee is aware of that the less experienced might not realise.

Above all else in my opinion - first impressions count! I know that if you don't look right to the interviewer from the moment they set eyes on you, it's like starting a football game with a touchdown against you in the opening drive. Pretty much you have a lot of ground to make up to get on their positive side.

Very complete article.
It comes at a great time, as we just received a resume where I work that was 11 pages long! Apparently the candidate was a grade A student back in high school...
And he missed the memo on job hopping as well.

Great post. As a semi-fresh college graduate, I've struggled with even getting an interview for the past year and a half. I work a retail management job because of excellent pay, but I've put in for jobs every week since I started the position. I'm dyiing to get interviewed somewhere and go into a more administrative/marketing role. I'll try your advice and look into callling companies after some research. Great stuff.
