EA used to be a cool company. They published my first game, Imperium and we worked with them on a bunch of games at IG. Everyone I met there was whip-smart and passionate about making great games. Now they are just another big dumb corporation that puts out press releases with frankenquotes like this:
“This is an important inflection point in our business because it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhance premium online services to the entire robust EA SPORTS online community.” – Peter Moore, President of EA SPORTS
(Belated hat tip: Signal vs. Noise)
Corporations of the world, fire your PR companies! You have nothing to lose but your crappy press releases.

Ugh.

Love this Matthew. I received one of those press releases the other day, too. Actually, I receive them all the time, but I wrote about one particular one here — and quoted your incredibly accurate and hilarious “Frankenquote” description, too!

My ambition is to get ‘Frankenquote’ into the dictionary!
One vote for Frankenquote in the dictionary.
And don’t be too hard on PR agencies. Half the time it’s the enterprise board of directors insisting on phrasing these releases and getting everyone to approve.
Loved Imperium on the Amiga, where can I find out more about it?
Keith
I’m not sure if there’s anything on the Amiga now but I’m pretty sure you could find a downloadable abandonware PC version. It’s been a while since I looked though. If you find one, let me know!
